MAR DEL PLATA, ARGENTINA – January 10, 2024 – The 2024 ILCA 6 Women’s World Championship, organized by the Yacht Club Argentino and the International Laser Class Association, concluded on January 10th in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
Anne Marie Rindom from Denmark secured her place in sailing history by winning the ILCA 6 Women’s World Championship for the fourth time in her career. Her previous victories were in 2015 (Al Mussanah), 2019 (Sakaiminato), and 2022 (Kemah). Rindom maintained a commanding lead throughout the championship, securing the title even before the final day. The current Olympic champion finished with 58 points in eleven races, sailing the Medal Race without pressure.
Rindom’s achievement places her among the most successful sailors in the ILCA 6 Women’s World Championships, alongside Marit Bouwmeester NED and Katarzyna Szotynska POL, both with 4 titles each. Rindom has also claimed two Bronze medals at the ILCA 6 Worlds in 2018 (Aarhus) and 2023 (The Hague).
Next on Rindom’s agenda is the Senior Europeans in Athens, scheduled for February 16th to 23rd at Nautical Club Kalamaki.
The Silver medal went to Charlotte Rose from the United States, securing second place with 75 points. This marks her first ILCA 6 Worlds medal and the first for the United States in the last eight years.
With a three-point difference, Belgian Emma Plasschaert secured the Bronze medal.
Apart from the titles and medals, the event was crucial for nations aiming for Olympic qualification. Seven spots for the Paris 2024 Olympics were at stake in Mar del Plata, and the following countries earned their tickets: Finland, Ireland, Uruguay, Spain, Brazil, Turkey, and Mexico.
A total of 101 boats from 46 countries participated, making it a truly global and competitive event.
We are really proud of our athletes, Ann-Marie and Charlotte, great to have them in the Devoti Sailing Team.
